We’re excited to announce that Unreasonable East Africa’s programmes for 2018 are now open for applications!

They’ll help you refine your business strategy with the support of over 100 seasoned mentors and unlock capital with the assistance of an in-house finance team and a network of investors. In the process, you’ll build relationships with like minded peers that will support you on this entrepreneurial journey.

Who is Unreasonable East Africa?

The Unreasonable East Africa program gives an “unreasonable advantage” to entrepreneurs creating solutions to the East Africa’s biggest social and environmental problems. These entrepreneurs aim to make an outsized impact, often with a tiny amount of resources; they have bold visions, but they face tough odds.

To give them an unreasonable advantage to beat these odds, they equip these entrepreneurs with the knowledge, mentorship, connections, financing and supportive community that they need to survive and grow.

Tell me more about the programmes!

Their programmes focus on for-profit and financially sustainable non-profit businesses across diverse sectors with positive social/environmental impact integrated into their models. Every year, they run 10 month programs designed to get early stage high potential companies in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda what they need to grow.

Unreasonable East Africa select an exclusive group of fifteen companies for each of these programs, who they work with intensively alongside their 100+ impressive mentors to get the businesses into the best possible shape to grow. They also connect these companies to their network of funders. Mentoring, training and funding connections? What more could you want for your business?! But it does not end there. Unreasonable East Africa continues to support these entrepreneurs for the life of their company and beyond.

Since late 2013, they have run three programs with twenty nine companies from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and South Sudan. Their companies have, to date, raised over $5.2 million in funding, created more than 380 jobs that did not exist before and meaningfully benefited the lives of more than 850,000 people.

Can I apply?

Unreasonable East Africa is either looking for companies with:

• Revenues of at least $20,000
• Have a viable business model
• Are 3-5 years old (flexible)
• Have a team of at least 2 people

OR entrepreneurs who are:

• Bold visionaries
• Ethical with strong integrity
• Hungry to learn
• Exemplary at executing
