Nairobi Garage Westlands // 7 Great Members at Delta Corner

We opened Nairobi Garage Westlands at the Delta Corner Annex at the beginning of July. One month later we have 7 great companies that have since joined us. Read to find out more:

In response to the growing demand for shared workspaces in Nairobi, we recently moved Nairobi Garage Westlands Office Space to Delta Corner.

This couldn’t be timely enough even as we mark the #InternationalCoWorkingDay. This new location offers 17 private offices, 40 coworking desks, 5 booths for phone calls and quiet work, and 7 fully fitted private board rooms as well as unique and spacious common spaces. A great addition to our existing 3 locations, in Karen, Kilimani & Spring Valley.

Just over a month later our space is booming with activities and more companies are joining our community.

As we celebrate International coworking day all throughout this week, here is a list of the seven companies that have since joined Nairobi Garage Westlands Office Space, our newest location at Delta Corner:

Scofield Associates

An organization, working with over 100,000 people in the Horn of Africa through enhancing better methods of monitoring and evaluation that achieve a broad and lasting impact in people’s lives.

With their head office in Nairobi with plans of opening other offices in the region, Scofield Associates believes in the people whose lives their work affects. Through this, they help people use their own power to fight poverty, illiteracy, and endless conflicts. They believe in resilience within the communities, organizations, and individuals; because that’s how real change happens for families, communities, and society.

Ogow Health

Founded in 2020, Ogow Health is a company whose mission is to offer contextualized mobile-health solutions empowering and equipping healthcare providers and caregivers in the hardest to reach communities contributing to a healthier and more equitable world.

OGOW health has been recognized across Somalia and Canada for providing some of the most underserved communities with equitable access to health care.

In 2020, the founder, Khalid Hashi, was shortlisted for the Global Citizen Prize: Cisco Youth Leadership Award and was recognized by the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation on their “30 under 30” list, which features 30 exceptional recipients for their inspiring work [toward] “making the world a more just, fair, and sustainable place for all.”

OGOW’s innovations were also selected as the Top Innovation at Somalia’s prestigious Somali International Award and were featured at Design Exchange, Canada’s Headquarters for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Hashi was also invited to speak at the Mogadishu Tech Summit, Somalia’s first-ever Technology, and Innovation Summit, and had the pleasure of being asked to mentor and judge the COVID-19 Hackathon with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

SWVL

You probably have seen them in the news recently as they plan to go public on NASDAQ. They joined Nairobi Garage in 2019 when they entered the Kenyan Market and now they became our first members at joining Nairobi Garage Westlands.

Swvl is a global tech startup based in Dubai that provides a semi-private alternative to public transportation for individuals who cannot afford or access private options.

The Company has built a parallel mass transit system offering intercity, intracity, B2B, and B2G transportation in 10 megacities across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Swvl’s tech-enabled offerings make mobility safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly, whilst ensuring that it is accessible and affordable to everyone.

Customers can book their rides on an easy-to-use app with varied payment options and access high-quality private buses and vans that operate according to fixed routes, stations, times, and prices.

Swvl was co-founded by Mostafa Kandil, who began his career at Rocket Internet, where he launched the car sales platform Carmudi in the Philippines, which became the largest car classifieds company in the country in just six months. He then served as Rocket Internet’s Head of Operations. In 2016, Kandil joined Careem, a ride-sharing company and the first unicorn in the Middle East. He supported the platform’s expansion into multiple new markets. Careem is now a subsidiary of Uber, based in Dubai, with operations across 100 cities and 15 countries.

To date SWVL has achieved some great milestones amongst them being;

• First Middle East US$1.5bn Unicorn to List on Nasdaq
• In 2019 they set aside KES 1.5b cash injection into the Kenyan market
• They also raised $42 million to help them expand into the Nigerian market

Kensta

Also joining the Nairobi Garage Westlands Office Space community is Kensta Group, a pioneer on many fronts, the business is built on solid principles and most of all the determination to make a difference.

Cashback Mobile

An amazing app that helps consumers in Kenya save on their shopping bills by rewarding them with cashback (via Mpesa) for buying specific items promoted on the app from their favourite Supermarket. They have joined Nairobi Garage Westlands Office Space and we are quite excited to have them on board

Medtronic

Medtronic is a healthcare company and is among the world’s largest medical device companies with operations in 150 countries. The company products treat 70 health conditions and including cardiac devices, cranial and spine robotics, insulin pumps, surgical tools, patient monitoring systems, and more.

The company therapies help 72 million people a year and support and its mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Medtronic has over 90,000+ employees across the globe.

Digital4Africa

The returning king of the month now is Digital4Africa. The company was founded in 2014 by Francis Waithaka to serve small and medium enterprises in Kenya on all matters of digital marketing. The team is passionate about building technology for the web and mobile. Digital4Africa is made up of a team of experienced UX designers, web designers, software engineers, data scientists, and content writers.
