Fromtu is a Digital Venture (startup) financed by Maersk. It is online B2B marketplace and trading platform with the vision to make trading simple. Our goal is to increase African trade by facilitating African exports, African imports and generate intra-Africa trade. The platform will help buyers and sellers connect, trade and facilitate the process of the trade. Fromtu is currently launched in pilot mode (see more on, while we’re applying agile development to further build the platform and grow our network of buyers and suppliers. The pilot is focusing on Kenyan suppliers and exports. Once we reach product-market fit, we will expand to the East African region and Africa. We are looking for a Business Developer with an entrepreneurial mindset to support our Business Development Manager with the business development efforts of the Fromtu platform in Kenya and the EAC. The individual will identify and contact buyers and suppliers to promote and sell the benefits of Fromtu with the purpose getting them to sign up to the platform. This includes identifying opportunities in other areas such as online marketing and building relationships with partnership organizations with the goal of on-boarding buyers and suppliers in a scalable way.

The selected individual will be expected to build and maintain segmented database of current and potential suppliers and buyers. Contact and sell Fromtu to/on-board buyers and suppliers in the relevant target groups. Support the Business Development Manager with the development of “commercial plays”. Gather info on products, buyers and suppliers including mapping of the value chains. Estimate market size, growth and pricing/profit along the steps in the value chain. Develop Fromtu’s go-to-market strategy for that commercial play. Support buyers and suppliers with technical assistance in relation to on-boarding. Provide online/offline live support to Fromtu’s users. Interact with the Fromtu product team to share ideas for/issues with the platform. Provide administrative support as needed.

A qualified applicant must reflect a strong entrepreneurial mindset. Should have obtained a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, marketing, international business, management or related area or equivalent. At least 5 years’ experience in business development, sales and customer management. Should be a highly networked individual in EAC with understanding of the international trade environment. Industry experience from agriculture, manufacturing, industrial equipment or auto. Ability to use the latest ICT technology and computer software programs. Methodical research skills w. analytical capabilities in collecting, distilling and interpreting data. Innovative and pragmatic problem solver with demonstrable skills for prioritization. Ability to work under minimum supervision, in a fast paced environment with a dynamic team. Fluent oral and written in English and Swahili.The Business Developer will be report to the Business Development Manager and will not have supervisory responsibilities. The base of operations will be Nairobi with travel in East Africa
