Education For All Children (EFAC) in partnership with Nairobi Garage, is launching the EFAC Wezesha Class of 2024 on May 30, 2024.
EFAC is an 8-year program serving Kenyan youth who demonstrate strong academic merit and leadership potential and who would otherwise be unable to continue their education beyond 8th grade.
EFAC supports students in their academic, social, and pre-professional development throughout high school, college, and into their careers.
Wezesha translates to Empowerment. The EFAC Wezesha Program is the “Transition into the Workplace” training program.
It is a one-year program covering the last (8th) year of an EFAC scholar with an initial one-day program launch, five-day induction, and eleven-month online training and concludes with a five-day boot camp just before graduation from the EFAC Program.
According to the latest Skills Mismatch Report (2023) by the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE), though the Universities in Kenya produce excellent graduates, only 36% of these graduates are ‘Job ready’ upon graduation, majorly due to the lack of exposure to the marketplace by the time they graduate. What this means is that a whole 64% would need more time to familiarize themselves with all other complementary skills required in their job.
Since formal education is not sufficient to empower the youth to find themselves a job, EFAC complements its efforts by providing the empowerment program above – Wezesha, that builds the employability capacity of its beneficiaries.
Additionally, recently at Nairobi Garage // Kilimani, EFAC in partnership with Yusudi also held a Career clinic session to empower young job-seekers with the necessary skills and tools in their job-search journey.
EFAC maintains that it is driven by what the community needs to bring about desired development while at the same time responding to what the employers need by building both professional and entrepreneurial mindsets.
The training in the Wezesha program takes a human-centered approach to competency development, coaching the beneficiaries to build their communication, people skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
This year, EFAC is hosting approximately 100 scholars under this program and will be launching the 2024 Wezesha class at Nairobi Garage // Kilimani. The theme will be : Graduate employability and innovation.
