Code for Africa (CfA) – one of our longest serving members – is hiring a Programme Manager to lead its Academy team based out of one of its main Africa offices: Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania), Cape Town (South Africa) or Nairobi (Kenya).
About Code for Africa
Code for Africa (CfA) is the continent’s largest federation of data journalism and civic technology laboratories, with labs in four countries and affiliates in a further six countries.
CfA manages the $1m/year innovateAFRICA.fund and $500,000/year impactAFRICA.fund, as well as key digital democracy resources such as the openAFRICA.net data portal and the GotToVote.cc election toolkit.
CfA’s labs also incubate a series of trendsetting initiatives, including the PesaCheck fact-checking initiative in East Africa, the continental africanDRONE network, and the African Network of Centres for Investigative Reporting (ANCIR) that spearheaded Panama Papers probes across the continent. CfA is an initiative of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ).
About The Team
The Academy brings face-to-face training into partner newsrooms and universities across Africa and hosts public workshops at monthly Hacks/Hackers meet-ups. The Academy offers free online courses and webinars, focused on data journalism and leading digital journalism trends. Code for Africa runs training sessions in South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Morocco, Senegal and Uganda.
The Role
According to the job listing, you will be required to dynamically develop the strategic vision for the Academy programmes, including newsroom and university trainings, the MOOC (massive open online courses) management and Hacks/Hacker communities
