BitPesa take another step and launch in Ghana
We are always excited to see our alumni Garage members’ hard work pay off, we know how hard they work on making their visions a reality.
Nairobi Garage alumni member, BitPesa has officially crossed another border and recently launched in Ghana, continuing their growth across the West African region, showing their dedication “to facilitating intra-Africa trade by increasing the ease and speed of doing business”.
Businesses in Ghana now can make and receive high-speed, low-cost payments to and from anywhere in the world using GHS, including;
- Making payments from Ghana that settle in 10+ currencies
- Making payments to Ghana in 10+ currencies
- Buying and selling bitcoin
BitPesa’s CEO, Elizabeth Rossiello, said in a company press release:
“Ghanaians should be allowed to make global payments using their own currency and we are excited to facilitate this. We will continue to improve service offerings, compliance, and value for our new Ghanaian customers.”
Ghana was BitPesa’s “natural choice for expansion” since it is the second largest economy in the West African region after Nigeria. Launched in 2013, BitPesa, is a digital payment and foreign exchange platform that uses the Bitcoin blockchain to boost the speed of business payments, while at the same time lowering the costs of transfers.
With world-class products and customer service, BitPesa makes it possible for businesses to make payments in multiple currencies and already has operations in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Senegal, DRC, the UK and Europe.
Following the launch, Ghanaian customers will be able to buy and sell bitcoin on the online platform, with businesses being able to make payments intra-Africa to Ghanaian mobile accounts. Currently, BitPesa is connected to two mobile networks in Ghana with more services expected to come with time.
