Exciting times for Nairobi based startups, our members and community!
1776, a global incubator and venture fund, is coming to Nairobi to hold it’s 2nd edition of #1776Challenge Cup, a worldwide tournament for the most promising and life-changing startup. This year’s competition has grown significantly, with participants from Lagos, Harare, Casablanca, Accra, Pretoria and Addis Ababa coming to Nairobi to compete against local startups, with one goal only – to get a chance to represent the country and continent in finals in Washington, D.C. (+ win $175,000 in cash and over 1,000,000 in potential investments!)
Nairobi Garage is beyond excited to be co-hosting this at our Westlands space, and see the participants go through an intense day of coaching and pitch-training before the big event. We also have to add that the winner of last year’s competition is one of our own – Grant Brooke with his company Twiga Foods. This is what he had to say about the experience:
“1776 was the first public thing we did as Twiga. We were only a few months old at that point. It was the first pitch I’ve ever done. Winning the competition globally is really what launched us, and changed the world in terms of recruiting, fundraising, and even our focus as a company.”
