Success is something that everyone in business craves for. The question asked by many at times is why some people are successful and others aren’t? Well, the truth of the matter is that success solemnly depends on your mindset as an entrepreneur.
What is the problem though? Are we setting unrealistic goals? Maybe, but that’s not really the problem. Are we not trying hard enough? Usually that’s not a factor either. What is it? Us! “We are our own worst enemy,” as Walt Kelly, creator of Pogo, famously wrote.
As an entrepreneur, you will only be successful if your attitude, flexibility and passion for what you are doing is right. Negativity does not stand a chance in the way of success. The only difference that can be clearly witnessed in different entrepreneurs is the way in which they conceptualize everything. The right frame of mind is something that cannot be similar to all and that’s what sets apart successful entrepreneurs from the not so successful ones.
We decided to investigate just a few mindsets which you need to adopt to make your company one to reckon with.
As an entrepreneur, you cannot be afraid. If that is the case, you will never be the successful entrepreneur you strive to be. Being successful means you are able to go beyond the norm. Never be afraid to fail because that is the only way you will learn and better yourself.
A good example of this is Henry Ford. Ford went broke five times before making the perfect vehicle. You know why? Because he wasn’t thinking outside the box! He succeeded after realizing that he needed to produce a mass of cars, using the simplest of designs. This would make his car the most affordable for people to buy and that’s exactly what he did!
You are definitely not going to be successful if you don’t set goals and deadlines. A good entrepreneur is never rigid. It’s important that you have set goals so that you’ll more inclined to achieve them. Some may be tough at times but getting through them is what makes you a champion.
The goals you set have to be clearly defined and KPI oriented. According to statistics, more than 80% of managers say that their goals are just specific enough. What’s more, over 80% of organizations have a formal system which they use to manage goals across the various departments that they have.
It is said that birds of a feather flock together. This can definitely be applied in business. As an entrepreneur you need to surround yourself with people who share your same vision or can add value to the vision that you have.
Negativity is easily spread so be careful with the company you keep. Make sure you do away with all the toxic people that surround you and you will see what a big difference it makes.
As an entrepreneur you should learn to see things for more than what they really are. It’s important to ALWAYS see the bigger picture. When you see the bigger picture, you immediately know what is needed and expected for you to succeed. Being mindful means you are in the know of what is happening in the NOW. You can then prevent mistakes that are most likely to occur in the future.
Being selective will also come in handy when you’re selecting the team you want to work with. Be sure that you are well aware of the people you work with and their strengths so that you can easily place them in the right departments. This kind of selectivity will definitely help you in the journey to success.
In success, you have to wing it most of the time. You can never be 100% sure that what you’re doing will lead to success but the only way you will know is to try. Taking risks is a challenge but without it, you can never get to the top. It’s a learning curve for many, so hang in there.
For success, it’s important that you put all these factors into consideration and apply them simultaneously. All these boil down to setting your mind in a certain way for you to succeed. After all, as William Ward once said – “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.”
