It’s October, where has 2016 gone?! Well at least seeing new members coming in is giving us a good way to keep track of time! This month we’ve had quite a few new interesting companies joining us, and here are three of them. NOTE: Two of these companies are women-led and totally kick butt! They proved their worth at the African Women in Tech conference where they won free desk space at the Nairobi Garage for their ingenuity. Let’s give them all a big “karibu sana”!
The winners of the AWIT pitch competition get the first mention, they would be Sauti! They are a mobile-based trade information and social accountability platform for SMEs engaged in cross-border trade in the East African Community (EAC). They’re here to empower your rights as a citizen of the EAC if you’re a cross-border trader, so that you may safely and profitably conduct your business trans-nationally. Their platform offers two things. The first is access to tailored information on documentation, taxes and tariffs applicable to your products, live market rates and exchange rates, and updates on changes to border procedures. The second is a place where you can report instances of bribery or harassment at border crossings, to help them advocate for your rights and call out on injustices with evidence backing them up. Shout-out to this fascinating company of heroes! They’ve won 6 months of free desk space at our Westlands space!
The runners up of the AWIT pitch competition are Maisha Meds, a startup that supports small private chemists and clinics in Kenya with their point of sale and inventory management software that they use to manage their business. Using information from this system, they also provide patient follow-up and support via sms, and aggregated data and insights to stakeholders within the health system for decision-making. More heroes, here to save the day with innovation! They’ve won 3 months of free desk space at our Ngong Rd space!
Last but not least, we have a new member that – though not led by women – still packs a serious punch! Syntek Global is an American company with exclusive rights to distribute Xtreme Fuel Treatment, which – if used – dramatically reduces a company’s environmental pollution and fuel-related costs. On top of this, this treatment cares for your machine (whether it’s a car or a lawnmower), extending its working life and increasing its horsepower. Let’s call the treatment a detox for engines! Not only did Syntek come with their product, but with a treat for Garagers! They’re selling their product to us at wholesale price! You can add that to the list of perks that come with being a Garage member.
