Nairobi Garage is expanding, with a new branch opening in Westlands; making it Africa’s largest co-working space. The new space will open doors on December 1st 2015.

The expansion comes as a response to the growing demand for quality working space and entrepreneurial community in one. With the launch of it’s second co-working space in Nairobi, the Garage will bring on board a greater variety in stages and sectors of new economy businesses, as well as international tech companies.

“With our expansion, Nairobi Garage will be able to offer affordable shared space to many more of Kenya’s top local startups. We also aim to make it easier for incoming entrepreneurs and investors from overseas who want to get a foothold in Africa. What you get with the Garage is a ready-made and very active community of innovators, looking to learn with and help one another,” said Hannah Clifford, general manager of Nairobi Garage.

The new Garage will offer Nairobi-based businesses an additional 400 desks, plus a number of team rooms, meeting rooms and event space. The Westlands branch is expected to host around 70 companies, bringing Nairobi Garage’s total membership to 100 startups, SME’s and ecosystem players.

The Nairobi Garage Westlands, is located at the Mirage, a brand new commercial building on Waiyaki Way. The office space is 25,000 square foot in total, with an additional entertainment rooftop area. As with the current Nairobi Garage space on Ngong Road, the Westlands branch will offer it’s members all-inclusive 24/7 office facilities, access to an in-house café, events and workshops series tailored for entrepreneurs and techies, meeting rooms and presentation/event area.

Around 40% of the space has already been pre-booked for the Westlands branch, with companies such as Uber and Terragon Group signing up ahead of the opening.

The Nairobi Garage is a shared working space that is home to many of Nairobi’s top startups. The Garage concept, which is also present in Cape Town and Lagos, was born out of 88mph’s tech accelerator – the first of such in Africa. The aim is to build up first-class working facilities in the fastest growing cities in Africa; to provide local entrepreneurs with a hassle-free working environment which tackles rising costs of doing business in Africa. The Garage also helps local businesses to grow and connect internationally, through the Garages international networks, events and stream of investors and overseas innovation enthusiasts.
