Earlier in the week we had the distinct honor of hosting His Majesty King Charles III, during his State Visit to Kenya The King’s visit celebrates the warm relationship between Kenya and the UK , and the strong dynamic partnership they continue to forge.
Kenya has the third largest start-up ecosystem in Africa, and The King’s visit showcased the vital role played by entrepreneurs and innovators in Kenya, key among them the special focus on climate technology, or climatech, as a driving force for sustainable change.
Speaking after the visit, Luna Ruffo, CEO of Nairobi Garage said; “We were truly honored to participate and host (The Tech showcase) and His Majesty The King at Nairobi Garage. During his visit, King Charles engaged with some of Kenya’s most innovative and promising startups, including Gjenge Makers and Majik Water, both of which are pioneering solutions in climatech.
Gjenge Makers is renowned for its innovative recycling and sustainable construction solutions, while Majik Water focuses on atmospheric water generation technology, providing clean and safe water solutions to communities.
The King also had the opportunity to explore Nairobi Garage’s dynamic workspace, where he engaged with several entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts.
Exhibitors from Liquid Intelligent Technologies and Fingo Africa, shared insights and demonstrated their commitment to technology-driven progress.
This visit by His Majesty The King Charles underscores the strong ties that Nairobi Garage has established with the UK-Kenya Tech Hub and the entrepreneurial ecosystem worldwide over the years with some of the UK-led startups finding a home within its spaces. Further, it underpins the efforts and partnerships between Kenya and the UK which are essential for fostering innovation, promoting sustainable development, and addressing global challenges.
The visit was followed by a reception on financing climate innovations where Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) Africa announced opportunities to work on Green Bonds with BURN and investment in Cavex, two of the participants in the Tech Showcase. Cavex also announced the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI) during the same session.
