MEST Africa, an Africa-wide technology entrepreneur training program, internal seed fund, and network of hubs offering incubation for technology startups in Africa has a job opening for a Marketing and Communications Manager.

This person should be an enthusiastic writer and communicator, knowledgeable about the African tech space, and a people person ready to dive into the innovative and vibrant community.

They should have an eye for detail and be able to work in the fast-paced environment of the startup ecosystem.

Together with the Head of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing and Communications Manager will lead all content creation and execution for marketing and communications efforts at MEST. Be a part of an Africa wide tech community!

Critical to raising awareness about MEST, creating and managing engaging content about MEST, portfolio companies, and the African tech landscape, the Marketing and Communications Manager will oversee the work of the marketing analyst and a content creator, manage media relations, plan inbound content, and more.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Planning

• Manage content calendar and ensure content is set daily.
• Using the department set strategy and inbound methodology, grow, and engage MEST social media communities, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube, with an ability to speak to each unique audience.
• Build social media advertising with an eye toward measurable lead generation for the recruitment and business development pipeline.

Content Creation

• Manage marketing analyst and content creator, reviewing their work, and helping them set monthly campaigns.
• Produce regular engaging digital content that brings the MEST brand to life and highlight our company, including blog posts, newsletters, industry reports, white papers, case studies, videos, and more – with a goal to make video content a quarter of content released.
• Own the meltwater.org site, including assisting with a new website and updates where needed
• Make graphics and collateral using Canva for regular brand updates, partner program collateral, and more.

Press and Media Relations

• Establish and maintain relationships with key influencers, journalists, and members of the media to ensure MEST continues to get coverage.
• Manage press announcements for MEST and portfolio companies, including writing press releases, distributing among appropriate media contacts, collating, and promoting successful hits.
• Track all mentions around MEST and portfolio companies.
• Field and manage all relevant inbound requests to MEST and filter to appropriate teams as needed

Internal Marketing Support

• Monthly internal Marcom lunch and learns.
• Be first eyes on work coming in from other departments or portfolio companies and ensure proper review.
• Work closely with teams and portfolio companies to provide support in marketing and communications where needed.
• Set up media team and design content around events, host interviews with guests, and ensure they look and feel fit with the MEST brand.

Reporting and Feedback

• Set up analytic tracking and reporting system and deliver monthly reports that change department direction.
• Ensure SEO & SEM best practices, including Google AdWords and Google Analytics.
