Fluency in written and spoken English
What you will bring to the table
Knowledge/experience of working in social/behaviour change campaigning OR public opinion research OR humanitarian programming
Knowledge and experience of quantitative research methods
Knowledge and experience of using quantitative tools such as R, STATA and SPSS
Knowledge and experience of using visualization software (eg. Tableau, Shiny)
Experience designing and conducting field research, especially focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews
Experience in translation from English to Somali and Somali to English for development programmes
Experience in survey/questionnaire design
Understanding and exposure to data science techniques, such as machine learning
Fluency in additional local languages in east Africa

At least one year professional experience working as part of the design and implementation of media development projects
Ability to effectively manage multiple partners to deliver results
Experience producing content for interactive media, especially radio

Preferred Experience
A Master’s Degree in a relevant Social Science discipline (such as social psychology, sociology, political science, development studies, socio-economics).
At least two years experience in social research on social norms/behaviour change, and able to propose relevant programme recommendations in this sector
Proven capabilities in delivering impactful research products, form in-depth reports and publications to succinct briefs and blog pieces.
Ability to work closely with clients and other partners, to adapt AVF’s innovative solutions to their specific programme needs
What you will bring to the table
Excellent knowledge and experience of designing mixed-methods social research intervention drawing on a range of social science research methods
Strong knowledge of, and experience working with, quantitative methods, statistical concepts and data analysis.
Sufficient understanding and experience of qualitative methods (such as content analysis, focus group discussions, grounded theory or digital ethnography).
Knowledge and experience using SMS/IVR platforms such as Rapidpro
Experience in project management, delivering complex projects against tight deadlines, managing budgets and human resource aspects of projects
Experience managing data management flows of complex research projects.
Exposure to, interest in and some understanding of big data techniques such as text mining, NLP, machine learning, category analysis, agent-based modelling.
