JA Kenya has partnered with NCBA Bank to launch The University Innovation Challenge, a competition that seeks to give students running startups an opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial thinking and engage in a contest with other startups.
Junior Achievement Kenya in partnership with NCBA Bank will give these University startups a chance to compete in the global arena.
The move comes as a chance for JA to continue to inspire and prepare the youth through its various programs.
The competition will provide a platform for youth to come up with business ideas that aim to solve a certain problem in the community in which they live.
Themed, “Breaking Barriers”, the competition seeks to also work with startups that have business ideas that fall under the three broad SDGs tracks of Economic, Social, and/or Environmental
The theme is driven by JA Kenya being a member of the UN Global Compact. This move enables JA to continue to strive and collaborate with its partners to advance sustainable development.
The competition is for creative and innovative startups and is shaped by a shared goal of connecting and empowering the cultural and creative industries worldwide and will bring together experienced business mentors and students to advance real-world social problem-solving in their local communities and beyond.
The University Innovation Challenge aims to encourage youth who are in University and recent graduates to develop or showcase their already-made transformational innovative solutions that will help solve everyday problems and create positive change. The aim of this initiative is to encourage youth to develop transformational innovative solutions that will help solve everyday problems.
Earlier this year, JA partnered with The African Development Bank to open a second Information and Communications Technology Centre of Excellence at the United States International University-Africa in Nairobi.
This marked an important milestone for the Bank’s Coding for Employment program (link is external) and its growing partnerships with higher education and technical and vocational education and training institutions.
The National Finals competition for Kenya will be held in May with the top 10 Startups pitching their business ideas. On 5th June 2023, all global finalists will be competing in the Creative Business Cup in Denmark, Copenhagen.
