KidsOR are looking to hire a Communications Officer for Africa who will report to the Head of Fundraising and Communications (direct line Manager) & Director – Africa (dotted line Manager).
KidsOR is dedicated to delivering and installing operating rooms and providing local surgeons with the equipment they need to save children’s lives.
About the Role
This role is responsible for driving forward their communication plans in Africa. You will raise awareness of the need for surgery for children throughout Africa and raise the profile of Kids Operating Room (OR). The role will involve building strong relationships with partner organisations, hospitals and surgeons to produce robust and inspiring content that increases engagement from a range of audiences. Leading on press, media and social media within Africa you will maximise opportunities to increase KidsOR’s profile and reach. This is an exciting role that provides an opportunity to develop skills in executing marketing and communications plans, social media marketing, digital communications, and content development.
Responsibilities
Develop relationships with partner organisations, hospitals and surgeons to source case studies, blog posts, data and information to be written and edited into engaging copy to communicate the need for KidsOR’s work and the impact it is achieving
Collate images and video content to produce robust and inspiring content to showcase the impact of KidsOR’s work
Increase Kids Operating Room profile by establishing relationships with target media and journalists, writing press releases and securing speaker slots at relevant conferences
Spearheading the KidsOR social media strategy in Africa to drive follower growth and engagement, including researching suitable influencers and curating content for different social channels
Respond to requests from the press for comments, views and supporting information and maximise opportunities for further engagement on relevant topics
Working with the KidsOR Communications team execute communications campaigns to create a multi-channel experience to meet fundraising and advocacy priorities
Undertaking analysis and testing of email and social media campaigns to inform future segmentation and retargeting campaigns
Devise organisational publications and literature to raise awareness of KidsOR and to advocate for the need for global children’s surgery
Manage agency partners, freelancers and suppliers to ensure they are delivering what is needed to raise awareness of KidsOR
Maintain robust records for example; of when and where communications content and corresponding consent is sourced, press and media contacts, social media monitoring
Requirements
Experience:
Experience in developing and delivering effective PR campaigns
Experience in building relationships with the media
Track record of placing high profile content across a range of press and media and social media
Experience of cross-team working to develop engaging communications content
Knowledge & Skills:
Excellent communication skills; creating compelling and persuasive content for a range of audiences
Proven copywriting and editing skills with a natural ability to capture and refine key messages
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships
Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to work to tight deadlines

Hours of Work: Full time, 35 hours per week. You get to enjoy some flexibility around working hours.
Location: Based within their Nairobi office this role will be part of a global communications team located in Edinburgh
Salary: Circa USD$34,460 (USD) per annum.
