The United Nations office for the coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) created a new platform-Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX) to assist in the collection of humanitarian data that can be used for comparison and analysis.
HDX was created with a view of creation of space for data collaboration as well as innovation.
The HDX platform consists of dataset repository, data visualization and Humanitarian Exchange Language components to assist in easy access of data.
Just recently HDX launched a Data Lab in Nairobi and will also be utilizing the Nairobi Garage space.
Some of the services the Data Lab will offer include; in-person service to the platform, data extraction, cleaning, storage, integration, analysis and visualization.
To this end HDX is looking to hire a Data Scientist to handle all aspects of this platform and to work with HDX Nairobi as well as the global HDX team towards achieving these goals.
Ideal candidate:
-Bsc. or Msc in Mathematics, Physics or Statistics
-3 years programming in Python or Ruby and an understanding of statistical analysis
-Skills in visualizing data using D3, High Charts or Google charts
-Database experience (MySQL, MongoDB)
-Experience writing APIs is favorable
-Fluent in English (Oral and written)
