Inspired Teams // 7 Ways Leaders Can Motivate Employees

Can business leaders keep their teams inspired & motivated helping enhance productivity whether they work remotely or from home? We share 7 ways in which we think that you can!

Imagine having inspired team members who look forward to working for your organization every day whether from an office space or at home.

In the last year, business leaders have been forced to move their teams into remote work. It has been a challenge to not only keep productivity high but also keep teams motivated. Highly motivated and engaged teams are hard to disregard. Their energy can be seen and felt a mile away. A cohesive team that works together seamlessly is most likely to achieve its set objectives within the company.

Working remotely has significantly changed how we manage our workload, energy and how we communicate with each other. Creating a space where team members consistently feel inspired, loved, understood and motivated may sound like some work of fiction. Yet high-functioning teams do exist, the common factor is that their leadership constantly motivates and inspires the teams.

As a business leader, the responsibility is on you to ensure that your team feels involved, engaged, and motivated to do the job at hand. In today’s piece, we’re sharing 7 strategies that can help you drive engagement and keep your teams inspired.

Set Clear Goals

Did a team member’s role or responsibility shift due to remote working? Were their day-to-day goals redefined in response to the adjustment? To improve motivation and engagement, people need to understand what success looks like in their role so as to create a connection between their contribution and organizational goals.

In order to reduce role ambiguity and stress, clearly define what they are expected to deliver, its importance and when it should be done. Clear goals give meaning in their day-to-day roles and drive engagement.

Clap for them!

It begins with you as a leader understanding the kinds of challenges that your teams are facing both professionally and socially. It will help you track their progress and put in measures that help them achieve their objectives despite the challenges.

Each time they accomplish something that they set out to do, it is important to applaud them both in public and in private as this will boost their self-esteem and give them the confidence to keep doing more.

Constructively Critique

Praise is great but it is even better when it is accompanied by actual feedback that can help your team members perform better. Giving specific, targeted feedback is a way of telling your team that you are actually paying attention without having to say a word.

The goal is to help your people grow and develop, so providing ongoing, constructive, and timely feedback is critical. When providing constructive feedback on areas of improvement, keep it personalized and actionable.

You can use the golden ratio of 5:1, which means that for every negative comment shared, you need to share five positive comments as well.

Inspire Growth

As a leader, it is important that you take a keen interest in the personal and professional growth of your team members. It helps build a connection and inspires them to want more for themselves.

A good way to do this is to organize training sessions, team days, workshops, offering education incentives, or subsidizing short courses for them. Not only should the focus be on professional learnings but also sessions such as how to manage personal finances that they can attend for self-improvement.

At the end of the day, the more skills team members acquire in their career and social life, the more they are likely to use these skills in ensuring the business meets its bottom line.

Incentivize!

Giving your team something worth looking forward to can inspire them to do their best consistently. Incentives will motivate your team to work hard throughout so as to always get the rewards even when they least expect it.

There are innovative apps & platforms that can help you manage, scale, and inspire your teamwork champions to achieve more.

Incentivisation can also help you to attract and likely retain the best talent. But remember consistency is key, as one deviation will send a message of distrust and confusion.

Conducive Workplaces

Team members spend 30% of their day at work or doing their job if they work for an average of 8 hours a day. That’s a long time spent so it is important to ensure that your business is a great place to work so that they can wake up each day motivated to do their job.

As a business leader, ensuring that they have all the equipment they need to be productive even as they work from home even to the minute details such as a comfortable office chair and desk.

You can also help them change up their work environment by signing them up to a coworking space nearest to their home. It’ll help them connect with other like-minded innovative teams, from all walks of life and a beautiful ambiance that inspires creativity.

Nurture Purpose

Communicating clearly the role that your business plays in making an impact in the world at large is a great way to nurture the urge to work towards making an impact in your team’s immediate spheres of influence.

Create opportunities that enable them to leave a long-lasting legacy that even future generations can learn from.  As team members reflect on their lives and careers, they want to contribute in ways that measure their achievement based on the long-term benefits that the company they serve bears.
