AOH With Muthoni Njoba: Follow Your Passion, Everything Else Will Align Itself
March 27, 2018The first annual 360 Afrika Forum is coming to you with an AR/VR Africa Hackathon not to be missed out on. Calling all artists, writers, creatives, hackers, filmmakers, activists and entrepreneurs to partake in this great hackathon dubbed ‘Creating Our Future.’
The hackathon will be taking place in 7 countries over 48 hours with a total of 35 participants and Nairobi Garage is proud to be one of the hosts here in Nairobi.
AR/VR Africa is a pan African community made up of extended reality creators and enthusiasts committed to leveraging XR to create solutions to problems faced in the community.
360 Afrika is an initiative that seeks to make access to story technologies through the building of bridges, creating community and promoting diversity around this goal. This is done through various forms such as hackathons, festivals, discussions and screenings as a way to increase the number of projects as well as raise awareness around the potential for VR/AR and other emerging technologies.
The main purpose of this hackathon is to build a community that supports democratizing access to emerging story technologies. Through this forum, the next generation will be inspired to create solutions and stories consumable to everybody.
The focus this year is on the virtual reality and its potential in East Africa.
- The 360 Afrika Forum will showcase and premiere Africa’s best VR and data-viz storytelling in an exhibition and VR cinema; hold a workshop for practitioners; and host a series of frank and far-reaching conversations with the region’s best storytellers in the middle of April.
- The 360 Afrika pop-up VR studio will give people a chance to get their hands VR dirty. We will hold office hours at Nairobi Garage and events around the city leading up to the Forum.
- The VR/AR Hackathon brings together five teams competing for prizes to create best use cases for Virtual and Augmented Reality. The pan-Africa event organized by the Imisi 3D Lab in Lagos will be simultaneously held in seven Africa countries from April 20th to the 22nd during the Forum.
