After Office Hours with Dr. Vincent Ogutu on Talent

I would like to introduce you to Talent and Skills- they are superhero powers that you didn’t even know you had or the talent management team in company X probably mistook for the janitor.

No seriously! What this dynamic duo really are are a Batman and Robin combo that are the secret weapon for personal growth and success and pay off to a satisfying and stimulating career.

As a business, basically the idea is that you need to make sure Batman and Robin are not mistaken for the Janitor because your business is missing out on mad talent to create opportunities for impact.

The reality is that everyone is genetically predisposed to be different and so naturally we are better than someone else at something.

For whatever reason, we are each blessed (more than others) to be  exceptional in certain things- with no particular effort, just like that. You know that kid who won every sports day because “it’s easy” and you couldn’t even finish the 100m sprint without figuratively dying- yeah that one.

That kid was talented. And if that kid was passionate,  invested to train everyday to build his capacity and skills and really took time and effort to be the top- well we now have a Usain Bolt superstar in the 100m sprint. You either want to be the Usain Bolt in your field or your business needs to know and cultivate the (potential) Usain Bolts.

Dr. Vincent Ogutu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Designate at Strathmore University will be joining us at our Kilimani space on 30th August from 6pm for an exhilarating talk on “From Talent, to Mad Skills, to Impact”. Dr. Ogutu will explore the  ways people can use talent to courageously identify and exploit their talents and innovatively build on them to create a huge impact.

Companies will also get a unique opportunity to pick the brain of this mastermind on how to best manage and retain their top talent and the most effective ways businesses and individuals can reinvent talent management to add value to the company success

Do not miss out on the unique opportunity to have such in depth knowledge and powerful insights on how organizations can create meaningful work environments, and determine the policies and procedures necessary to create an engaging worker experience to yield results.  Both witty and inspiring, we are certain that this talk will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Currently, Dr. Vincent Ogutu is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Planning & Development), at Strathmore University. He is charged with oversight of the university’s strategy, fundraising, alumni relations, development projects and community outreach.

He has given a TEDx talk at IESE Business School, in Barcelona-Spain, urging people to commit to the cause that “has their name written on it.”

Prior to his DVC role at the university, Vincent was the Vice Dean for Executive Talent Development at Strathmore Business School and was also the Director of the regional academies in Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.

He was the Founding MBA Program Director at SBS and led the MBA in its first three years. Before working at SBS, he was the Deputy Principal of Strathmore School.

Vincent has a PhD in Organizational Management from Rutgers University. He also has an MSc in Financial Economics from the University of London and a BA in Economics from the University of Nairobi.

He undertook his doctoral studies full time in the United States on a Fulbright Scholarship. He was one of seven moonshot pioneers chosen to present his tech idea on teleportation simulation at Google in New York in a Google NJ Solve for X competition.

He led Deloitte USA’s cybersecurity team on a discussion of the psychological elements of security breaches.  He was part of LaunchNJ, a team of professionals that created an ecosystem of entrepreneurs in New Jersey that mirrored  the Silicon Valley dynamic.

Currently he sits on the board of Strathmore University Foundation, B Lab East Africa (certifying companies for their social impact), Nafisika Trust (teaching entrepreneurial skills to prisoners), and is an advisor to several startups in Kenya and the US.

We regularly host thought-provoking and inspiring talks, skill-focused seminars and unique networking evenings designed to provide opportunities for professional development and creative growth.Get to know what events we having in the space here!
