You may have heard the phrase, “You’re not living up to your full potential.”
But what does that really mean? What is potential in a person, and how can we live up to it fully?& how much are we really capable of?
The potential of an individual is quantified by aspirations combined with determination. To reach your potential, you must exist in alignment with your highest self and believe in your destiny for more.
In our last After Office Hours with Dr, Patricia Murugami founder of Breakthrough Leadership Transformation, she shared a number of tips on how we can discover our purpose, explore our maximum potential & bring the best out of ourselves
We may have sunk into a pattern of playing not to lose so much that we have forgotten how to play to win. And that’s part of why we don’t reach our full potential – we do forget.
But something critical to remember is that we always have a choice when it comes to expanding our potential. We can choose, and making the decision is hugely empowering both for our personal growth and potential expansion.
By understanding you have a choice when it comes to your potential, you set yourself up for success.
Dr Patricia insisted on the need to learn a lot and take the roles we currently hold seriously & do the best with them.
“Sometimes the turbulence you go through not only tests you but also those around,” she said.
Here are more key takeaways from the session
When was the last time you stopped to consider your needs, without also taking into account what someone else wanted for you?
To become the next best version of yourself, always show up as your best self because you really never know who could be interviewing you for the next elevation.
Learn to ‘sanitize’ your mind and choose to select your thoughts and words in a very careful way.
Neglecting your own dreams and desires can hold you back. A life lived solely in the pursuit of the happiness of others may not bring you much personal joy. Over time, you might begin feeling drained even a little lost.
Focusing on yourself isn’t selfish. It’s an act of self-love. But when you’ve been in the habit of focusing on others, it can be hard to shift gears.
Always leverage the power of taking small steps every day in the direction that takes you closer to achieving your wildest dreams. Set clear goals, for yourself.
Without clear goals, your life journey will become a hustle with no purpose. Therefore, invest some time into thinking about things you’d like to have or achieve, set goals, and take action.
A single step taken in the right direction is better than none at all.
Sometimes, it is not enough to just cope with the problems – they need to be solved.
Most people engage in problem-solving every day. It occurs automatically for many of the small decisions that need to be made on a daily basis.
When you are faced with a problem, how do you go about solving it? Do you let it overwhelm you, or do you flex your problem-solving muscles and figure out the best possible solution?
You have made up your mind, but wait! There it is again. It’s that little voice inside your head saying, “Are you sure that was the right choice?”
This shows that you have a particular knack for second-guessing yourself, & this can easily lead to you getting caught in the second-guessing frenzy over even the simplest of decisions.
Doubting yourself repeatedly strips you of your sense of control leaving you feeling anxious and insecure.
When you make a decision, don’t second-guess yourself. Because the benefits of your decisions will diminish
People who allow themselves to be overwhelmed or ignore complex problems often become frantic and confused. They usually take a haphazard approach to thinking, and then they are dismayed when they find themselves floundering and making no progress.
