Workshop: Everything you need to know about Cryptocurrency

January 16, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

You are in for a treat! On Tuesday 16th January at our Ngong Road space, we will have a workshop hosted by Evan Klitzke. This talk will be an introduction to blockchains and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. It will cover the technology underpinning blockchains and distributed ledgers, as well as practical considerations for purchasing and transacting with cryptocurrencies.

Evan is a software engineer based out of San Francisco with an interest in blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. He previously worked at Yelp, Google, and Uber before striking it on his own. Evan will be working on the Bitcoin core project as a participant in the Chaincode Labs Residency program this February in NYC. He is also an active tech blogger, maintaining a website at https://eklitzke.org/

From the technology side the workshop looks at:

  • A brief look at the original Bitcoin whitepaper
  • How blockchains are structured, and how proof-of-work is used in Bitcoin
  • The advantages and disadvantages of cryptocurrencies compared to “fiat” currencies like Kenyan Shillings or US Dollars
  • The evolution of cryptocurrencies since Bitcoin, and technology innovations implemented in newer cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Monero

From a practical/usability perspective the following will be covered:

  • How to acquire your first Bitcoin (or another cryptocurrency)
  • Evaluating the risks of these investments
  • A look at how tech companies have been structuring ICOs (“initial coin offerings”) for fundraising
  • You really don’t want to miss this unique opportunity to meet one of the best engineers out of San Francisco!

Sign up for the Workshop here! See you there!
