African Women in Tech Conference

June 28, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The African Women in Tech (AWIT) Conference, is the only of its kind to provide a unique combination of hands-on tech workshops, discussions about education, careers in tech, and how to pursue them. It includes a  networking session hosted at our coworking space, to help women kick start their small businesses and future careers in technology.

IBOM LLC has helped multiple small businesses in New York for more than 4 years, by hosting educational events and aims to do the same through African Women in Technology for the African community, by hosting multiple tech events throughout Africa.

Edna Sawe

Edna Sawe attended the event in Ghana. Founder of tech start-ups BioPaneEnergyCo and Co-Founder of infomarkSolutions, Edna describes herself as a serial entrepreneur with a passion for energy and technology.

BioPaneEnergyCo focuses on the production of bio-propane gas that gets converted to electricity for use in lighting, heating, and cooking in rural areas.

Edna used what she learned at the AWIT conference to help improve her companies’ performance and was able to network with great minds and build lasting relationships with the other women in attendance. Edna was later invited to hosts talks to other young women about the opportunities in technology available to them.

Christine Sayo

Christine Sayo was a self-taught technology enthusiast, the AWIT event helped open her eyes to the opportunities for women in technology. Since the conference Christine has continued to attend numerous ICT events cementing her future in technology.

Stella Ngugi

Having little to no technology knowledge the AWIT event gave Stella what she needed to turn her idea into a successful tech start up.

Since the event Stella has been working on an AI powered recruiting system that uses data science and machine learning to offer job seekers & employers accurate results in the recruitment process when managing multiple applications.

The event helped Stella connect to a mentor who helped her start her small business, who also ended up being one of their very first clients.
