FoodTech 500 2026: Kenya’s Food-Tech Founders, Apply Now

Apply Free for FoodTech 500 2026 and Get Globally Ranked

For a food-tech founder building in Kenya, recognition can open doors that hard work alone cannot. The FoodTech 500 2026 brings that chance, with applications now open for the eighth edition of Forward Fooding‘s global ranking.

The list takes its cue from the Fortune 500 and presents itself as the world’s first definitive record of entrepreneurial talent where food, technology and sustainability meet. Kenyan companies are eligible alongside peers from every other country.

What applicants can gain

The FoodTech 500 is a ranking, not a pitch contest, so there is no stage and no prize pool. Companies that make the list get placement on the official FoodTech 500 platform, inclusion in the annual white paper, and exposure through Forward Fooding’s media and social channels. Applying is free, and there is no cost to be featured.

Who should apply

The call is open to AgriFoodTech companies at any stage, from early-stage ventures to established scaleups, in any geography. Forward Fooding names subsectors that fit much of what Kenyan founders are building, including precision farming, irrigation and water tech, food safety and traceability, surplus and waste management, food processing and packaging.

Three baseline requirements apply. Applicants must have incorporated their company, keep an active website, and have founded the company less than 15 years ago.

How companies are scored

The 2026 framework rests on three dimensions: business viability, innovation and differentiation, and sustainability. The emphasis is on evidence. Named customers, confirmed pilots, live deployments and retail listings count for more than broad claims about growth.

For Kenyan founders, the notable addition is a new Equity and Impact component. It recognises founder diversity, solutions serving the Global South, and companies focused on vulnerable and underserved populations.

Why it matters beyond the list

The ranking is about who gets to see you. Forward Fooding says it connects founders to a network of more than 22,000 industry professionals, including investors, food and beverage corporates and fellow founders. Since 2019, it has reviewed more than 11,700 applications from over 180 countries, and last year’s round alone drew more than 1,200 submissions from 87 countries.

For founders in Nairobi and beyond, that is a large international audience that can be hard to reach from home.

Key dates

  • Applications close: November 15, 2026 at 23:59 CET (01:59 Kenyan time on November 16)
  • Ranking announcement: first quarter of 2027

Forward Fooding may close applications early if submissions run high, so founders should not wait for the last day.

One rule for everyone

Forward Fooding does not carry previous honourees and alumni over automatically. Every company must submit a fresh application so the ranking reflects current, verified information. Forward Fooding also runs its own checks on websites and pitch decks, which is a reminder to update both before applying.

How to apply

Apply through the official form: https://forwardfooding.typeform.com/to/dWJC4PbZ. The deadline is November 15.

Anyone can also nominate a company they believe deserves a place: https://forwardfooding.typeform.com/to/oBW3fB72. The company you nominate must still complete its own application.
