WeFarm, a beloved member of the Nairobi Garage, and based at our office on Ngong Road, has recently launched in Nakuru County and farmers are thrilled.
WeFarm is a free peer-to-peer service that enables farmers to share information via SMS, without the internet and without having to leave their farm. Farmers can ask questions on farming and receive crowd-sourced answers from other farmers around the world in just minutes.
The tech startup recently launched in Nakuru much to the delight of farmers in the county. WeFarm sent ambassadors to tour the county and help farmers sign up and was received with great enthusiasm.
WeFarm will enable the users of Nakuru County, without internet connection to access a data-base of relevant and timely farming advice as well as information on sustainable farming practices, that could boost the production capacity of farmers in the county. It is now emerging that empowering farmers through relevant and timely farming information could significantly boost their yields as witnessed by some farmers in Kakamega and Meru counties.
The tech company that has been featured on Forbes and BBC News seeks to reach out to at least 1 million farmers across the country by the end of the year. Over the last year, its users have shared over 15 million pieces of information on the platform
WeFarm has grown from our shared co-working spaces in Nairobi, and is now expanding its reach outside of the city, while also growing its team. We are really proud of their work and glad to see them growing and gaining.
