In the race to become more developed, people have learnt to code and create fabulous programs that make life easier not only for them but the world as a whole.
This has led to more and more multinationals taking the initiative to mentor and breed an ever growing number of coders.
One of these is Google. Through its Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program, that offers students stipends to write code for open source projects, it is accepting applications into this year’s event.
Google Summer of Code was launched 10 years ago with a vision to provide students a great opportunity to create source code that can be used by all while making some money out of it.
GSoC works in 3 simple steps;
-Propose a project (List of 137 projects is on the website for you to choose from)
-Code
-Make money
Students are required to submit an application before March 27, 2015 with a project proposal on the company they wish to work with.
During the course of the program, participants are paired with mentors to enable them tackle technical as well as any other queries they may have. Some of the mentors include the Institute for Artificial intelligence and the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility.
This is an opportunity for students to have fun, interact and develop their coding skills.
Key to your application being accepted is the project proposal, check the students manual for tips, otherwise apply here.
