SUMMARY:How to position your company for success from a Legal perspective
DESCRIPTION:The interest in entrepreneurship is at an all-time high. However\, entrepreneurs will tell you that starting  your own business is both exciting and challenging. \nOne needs to understand and deal with many issues from legal\, financing\, sales and marketing\, intellectual property protection\, liability protection\, human resources\, and more. An oversight to one of this could end a great and impactful business. \nOne major mistake that most entrepreneurs do despite putting together a great research\, writing a business plan or roadmap\, and deciding on a business structure\, most entrepreneurs tend to overlook some legal requirements involved and this has crippled many businesses. \nGreat businesses that have recorded spectacular success stories of early-stage startups growing to be multi-billion-dollar companies like Uber\, Facebook and many others have occasionally found themselves in the wrong side of the law. These legal issues have led to costly consequences down the road. \nOften\, entrepreneurs aren’t willfully avoidant of these laws; they are simply unaware of what is necessary. So\, what are some of the legal requirements to review and understand before launching or even when running your business? \nWhat are some of the things that you need to understand before signing that contract? When it comes to finances and tax how best do you understand the law? Whether you’re a current business owner or are still deciding whether to take the plunge and start a company\, it’s important to step back and make sure you take all the proper legal steps to ensure your dream is realized with the protection of a legal business entity–such as an LLC or corporation. \nThis is not as hard as it is perceived though. Join Michelle A. Ouma and Ng’arua K. Ng’arua of Busaidy Mwaura Ng’arua & Company Advocates\, (BNAdvoactes) for a conversation on setting up your business to achieve maximum results within the set legal parameters. \nThis workshop in Nairobi will take place on Wednesday 16th October 2019 from 11am – 1pm at Nairobi Garage // Cove Court // Watermark Business Park // Karen. \nRSVP your attendance here! \nSee you then \nAbout the speakers: \nNG’ARUA K. SUMMARY:AFTER OFFICE HOURS WITH TERRYANNE CHEBET
DESCRIPTION:I think you’ll agree with me when I say: Being a leader is one of the most difficult yet the most rewarding positions in the world.\nThe joy of seeing dreams come to life and people just pursuing their passion and grow in their areas of expertise. \nHowever\, it’s not quite rosy it takes so much to become a great leader. When business coaches list the traits of great leaders\, vision\, passion\, persistence\, resilience\, hardwork are top of the list. \nBut it takes more than that. One trait that is mostly forgotten or rather overlooked is courage. Business leaders make tough choices and juggle competing priorities. This calls for courage just as much as it tests decision-making abilities. \nIt is courage that differentiates a person who ‘juggles’ tasks from a leader who handles stress efficiently. A leader who sees problems as opportunities to innovate. \nFor some leaders\, it takes more than courage to handle businesses\, hold a top position in the corporate world. And at the end of the day\, motherhood/fatherhood comes calling and they still remain sane. \nOne great example of an entrepreneur and a corporate leader is Terryanne Chebet. Over the years she has been able to run her two businesses and still rise on the Corporate Ladder across the Media Industry. Want to know how? \nJoin us for our next After Office Hours with Terryanne Chebet\, General Manager at Metropol Tv. Traits that she has embraced over time and how they have been impactful in her roles. \nThis session will take place on 26th September from 6 pm\, on 7th Floor // Pinetree Plaza. \nRSVP your attendance for this great upcoming event in Nairobi here and see you then. \nAbout the Speaker\nTerryanne Chebet is an exemplary Media Expert. SUMMARY:Workshop // How healthy relationships at home can improve productivity at work
DESCRIPTION:How healthy relationships at home can improve productivity at work\nThere are tons of ways to reinvigorate your work life. In fact\, we have previously covered some of these ways in some articles that we have shared in the magazine section of our website. \nFrom adding in some mood-boosting plants to your productivity space to setting up different sitting styles at your office to boost some comfort and coziness or just having inspirational wall hangings all-round the office. \nSomething you might not have considered\, though\, is how a healthy relationship at home can also affect your job performance. \nHealthy relationships could go as far as your sex life. We understand that the sex topic still remains a taboo in the African set-up but a study published in the Journal of Management has found evidence that sex might have a bigger impact on your job than you think. \nSo does your relationship at home have anything to do with your productivity at work? Does it really influence your productivity work? The truth on this is yes it does. But how? \nTo learn more about this\, join Catherine Holden (MBPsS)\, Consultant Counselling Psychologist & Sex Therapist at Almond Tree and Wellness Centre. Cathy will introduce sex therapy as an ethical practice; touch on relationships and intimacy\, as well as\, answer any questions you may have on human sexuality. \nThis workshop will take place on Tuesday 24th September from 5.30pm on the 9th Floor at Pinetree Plaza. \nRSVP your attendance here and see you then! \n  \n  \nWe regularly host thought-provoking and inspiring talks\, skill-focused seminars and unique networking evenings designed to provide opportunities for professional development and creative growth. SUMMARY:After Office Hours with Grant Brooke
DESCRIPTION:Anyone who has been through the Entrepreneurship journey will tell you that the journey is not easy. The companies that we revere are successful not because they started but because they failed on the way and learnt from the failures. \nAs an entrepreneur\, the challenges that you are facing today are not unique to your company. From securing funds\, to scaling down occasionally\, cashflow management\, sourcing talent; let’s face it\, most entrepreneurs do not hit us with these hard truths\, but they go through these challenges. \nTake for instance a company like Cellulant\, the CEO\, Ken Njoroge once mentioned that they had to meet over 60 different investors in a two-year period that took up 400 pitches across the world to secure funding. \nTwiga Foods on the other hand\, secured its first funding in six months after they set-up their business\, but still they were constantly short of capital and struggled to meet the rapidly growing demand. \nDespite these challenges these two companies have survived the wave of time to become one of Africa’s most sought after. But the question to most entrepreneurs is do we get the whole entrepreneurship concept? Is there a manual to this? how far are we willing to go? and do we have what it takes to step up our game? \nJoin us for our next After Office Hours session with Grant Brooke\, Executive Director at Twiga Foods\, one of the fastest growing companies in East Africa as he shares his entrepreneurship journey on 6th June from 6.00pm to 7.00 pm on 7th Floor at Nairobi Garage Pinetree Plaza. \nGrant\, will share the Twiga Food story from a perspective that you have not heard before. Get to learn more on how he started his journey into entrepreneurship\, how he met his co-founder Peter Njonjo\, how the company got to scale-up fast\, the hurdles the company had to jump\, the lessons\, the regrets and much more. \nAbout Grant Brook \nGrant Brooke is the Executive Director of Twiga Foods\, a mobile-based\, B2B platform used by small- and medium-sized businesses to purchase fruit and vegetable stock from local and regional farmers. \nCurrently\, the company works with 5\,226 vendors to source and deliver quality produce at fair prices. With the use of technologies such as Blockchain\, Twiga Foods has emerged to become Kenya’s largest seller of bananas\, potatoes\, tomatoes\, and other staple commodities. \nBorn in Texas\, Grant Brooke found himself in Kenya during graduate school studying the impact of religion on economic choice-making in informal markets and spending a lot of time researching food vendors. \nFrom there\, he went to Oxford to pursue a doctorate on the subject. At Oxford\, he met and became friends with Peter Njonjo\, the former GM for Coca Cola in East Africa. The two began to discuss how they might apply Coke’s distribution model to produce\, and from there Twiga was born. \nSince the launch in 2014\, Grant has led Twiga to being one of East Africa’s fastest growing enterprises\, attracting top global investors\, talent\, development partners\, and media attention in the likes of CNN\, CCTV\, Fast Company\, and The BBC. \nTwiga has also grown to be the largest supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables in Nairobi\, with some 250 full-time staff\, delivering to thousands of vendors a week. \nBy March this year Twiga Foods had reached the $30 million (Sh300 million)-mark in investment. In April\, Twiga Foods\, appointed the company’s co-founder Peter Njonjo to become the company’s CEO taking over from Grant Brooke. \nTwiga Foods was also named among East Africa’s top ten tech companies to watch out for in 2019 by I-DEV International. \n  \n  \nWe regularly host thought-provoking and inspiring talks\, skill-focused seminars and unique networking evenings designed to provide opportunities for professional development and creative growth. DESCRIPTION:The world marked the World Health Day on 7th April to celebrate the progress being made in health care in countries across the world. \nAs much as the statistics from the World Health Organisation shows that millions of people still have no access at all to health care and millions more are forced to choose between health care and other daily expenses such as food\, clothing and even a home\,  we still can’t turn a blind eye to the fact that innovation such as telemedicine\, e-health\, m-health has revolutionized the healthcare sector \nIn line with this\, our upcoming After Office Hours session will focus on health and innovation.  The session will be held at our Kilimani Office Space\, on 7th Floor at Pinetree Plaza from 6pm by Tony Wood\, Managing Director\, Managing Director at ION Kenya\, the company that operates the MYDAWA brand. \nMYDAWA is a revolutionary e-health solution that ensures quality health care products are delivered to consumers at an affordable price and are consistently available to consumers\, conveniently and with privacy\, all from the palm of their hand. \nConsumers can pay through Mobile Money or Health Insurance and have their products\, delivered securely and free of charge to a place of your convenience where they can collect at a time that fits their schedule. \nMost importantly\, they can be confident of the quality of our products because they will be able to authenticate every pack through our globally unique authentication solution. This is all achieved through simplification and security within the supply chain. \nTony comes to the Pharmaceutical Industry with a successful technology background\, because technology is at the heart of our customer solution.
