This month, Agustina from Argentina (yes, train your pronunciation!) has joined NG Team. Product of globalization, like Coca Cola, with her heavy latino accent, she will be here for a month to help with outreach, networking and communications activities.
With a background in political sciences and international communications, as well as the ability to tell jokes in 6 languages and laugh in all of them, she really wanted to make a work experience within in Africa to help the development of local businesses around. ‘Social entrepreneurship is fascinating. It constitutes a main driver of social change and I think Nairobi Garage has well understood its potential of growth. The way the connect people is just fabulous’- she says enthusiastically, when asked.
‘Tools for success are there in Africa. We just have to use them correctly and teach the community how to use them as well!It is all about sharing knowledge. Providing high access to Internet and technologies, to services, good coworking spaces, organizing skills and talents workshops are useful instruments to reach that goal and get all the SMEs started in their journey towards success’.
Having served at the UN and various international organizations for many years, Agustina has no doubt about the potential of development that this model of business has in Kenya and in Africa in general. ‘I believe that this kind of initiatives makes a real difference and in a useful sustainable way for all the persons involved. Referring to a popular saying in Latin America, it is not just about providing the fish to the people but teaching them how to get it. So I am glad I could come here to help with my skills and be part of this process’, she states with a smile.
